Description

There is growing interest in the use of robotics and autonomous systems (RAS) in search-andrescue missions. The need for smart human-robot-interaction (HRI) systems in these application areas becomes critical as deployed robots have to collaborate and cooperate with human rescue teams in fast changing and dynamic environments. In addition to environmental variability, the HRI systems need to ensure safe and effective grasping and manipulation of the wounded/incapacitated solider. To achieve this, proper understanding of the potential injury mechanisms in the human body during HRI interactions become essential. This solicitation calls for the development of a biomechanically accurate digital human body model that can estimate (a) grasping contact forces and (b) joint moments during HRI manipulation.
