Description
The advancement of the Next Generation Open Mission Planning Services (NOMS) architecture requires an Application Programming Interface (API) for the Fly Out Model (FOM). FOMs are a key component of mission planning, more specifically weapons planning, that are provided by weapons manufacturers. FOM libraries provide the algorithms that produce results such as acceptable regions of weapon release, footprints that represent strikable ground areas, and flyout trajectories from release to target. FOMs are currently provided by different manufacturers with their own software and dependencies. The vision of creating a single gateway API for FOM calculations allows for a single-entry point for all consumers in need of FOM calculation capabilities in their applications. In our earlier SBIR Phase 1, we researched and developed the initial gateway design along with initial details regarding the creation of what we referred to as a FOM Development Kit (FDM). The focus of this phase will be to further research technologies that can assist in developing a more open solution to FOM use by engaging further with the mission planning community and FOM manufacturers to develop a microservices based topology architecture that would allow desktop, web, and mobile users easier and scalable access to weapons performance data.
