Description

For years, the DoD air crew have experience lasers as a potential threat. The current designs for protection have color and transmission issues which often leads to pilots leaving them off, especially at dusk/dawn and night, forgoing the protection for greater situational awareness. Fit and finish, especially under helmet mounted displays, further exacerbates the issue. Eclipse Energy Systems, Inc. (Eclipse) has a spectacle which has been tailored to be a Laser Eye Protection filter technology that can block NIR and other laser threats in multiple wavelengths while providing high transmittance and color neutrality in the visible spectrum. Specific blocking bands have high OD and can be adjusted based on customer specifications. These can meet the needs of the pilots, and can even, after prototypes are given out for demonstration, be modified in the frame or wavelength regions of interest and still maintain clarity and durability. Thus, this is a high technical feasibility program. Eclipse has multiple interested Empowered Stakeholders interested in the technology.
