Description
In this ATAK Live Mapping program, GreenSight proposes to extend ATAK's core mapping engine by adding the capability to connect to and display dynamic map data from a map source that is updated in near-real time, as an operation progresses. The expected use cases for this feature are extensive, since many ATAK users would benefit from having up-to-date map information to provide additional context and critical geospatial information relevant to their objectives. For a search and rescue mission conducted after major storm damage or bombardment, the ability to deploy a UAS to overfly the region and stream real-time map updates to a user's ATAK device would provide immediate feedback on real conditions, including damaged structures, blocked roads, and debris fields that would not be present if the user pulled map layers from an older source. This example scenario can easily be extended to many other use cases where having dynamically updating maps present on an ATAK device would be beneficial, even allowing a user to see updates to regional geography occurring in near-real time if the overwatch aircraft can be kept aloft for an extended duration. GreenSight proposes to build an end-to-end demonstration of this capability, not only extending the ATAK core mapping engine but also integrating it with a real-time mapping server to be developed under this effort, which will provide dynamically updating maps from imagery captured by GreenSight's own UAS imaging platform. The final target objective by the end of the proposed 24 month effort is to have a system capable of updating an android tablet ATAK device in the field with map data captured from an overflying UAS with
