Description
Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) is one of the major impediments to both military and civilian wireless communication systems. If the level of RFI is sufficiently high, then the signal of interest (SOI) can be corrupted, leading to degradation to the quality of service (QoS) of mission critical data links. The Mobile User Objective System (MUOS) is a high-capacity global satellite communications (SATCOMS) system operated by the DoD, providing mission critical communications for the warfighter. Similar to virtually all wireless systems, MUOS is subject to intermittent and arbitrary RFI from various sources. PRISM (Programmable Interference Separation for MUOS) is an interference mitigation (IM) system developed by Adaptive Dynamics Inc. (ADI) that has attained TRL8 with operational field testing. The capability of the current PRISM system addresses a wide range of highly challenging operationally relevant interference (ORI) scenarios. However, extremely wide interference over the entire radio channel remains a challenging environment, where additional research and development into wideband IM algorithms is required. ADI propose to investigate new techniques for extremely wideband interferers. These algorithms include "generalized" methods that exploit information specific to the MUOS User-to-Base (U2B) system architecture and "point solution" methods which exploit information specific to the operationally relevant interference types.
