Description
The Holographic Optical Element Augmented Reality Avionics Display System (HARADS) is a further development of Luminit transparent holographic components adopted for specific applications that require a very compact, lightweight design and a curved surface screen. Under the proposed research efforts, Luminit Government Service (LGS) will assemble a micro-projector, a specifically designed Light Shaping Diffuser (LSD®) and a transparent HOE screen into a helmet integrated AR display. The HOE RGB reflectivity without colors crosstalk enables a full color display. The display is expected to provide a superior field-of-view of up to 40 degrees diagonal, large eye-box sufficient to the head movement and the eye-relief compatible with the helmet configuration. The combination of a low power micro-projector (extended battery life) and efficient HOE will provide over 1000 nits brightness, adequate for sunlight use. The specific technical problem to be solved by HARADs is to extend the HOE technology to developing an AR display on a curved surface of the helmet visor and to enable it to operate in the geometry of the helmet integrated video source without helmet external modifications. Based on the Phase I analysis, this Phase II effort will design, simulate and build a prototype of helmet integrated AR display and deliver it to the customer for the evaluation. The type of helmet will be provided by the customer who also specifies the use cases, the key requirements and signed an MOU confirming the need for the proposed product.
