Description

The objective of this effort is to demonstrate an dc-ac distribution unit based on isolated power conversion technologies to support interconnection of dc sources and energy storage devices with an ac microgrid featuring tactical power generation and load equipment.  The unit will feature intelligent, autonomous controls to improve power quality and availability for both dc and ac distribution.  The unit specifically targets 60 kW of bi-directional power conversion and power/energy management between 600 Vdc and 208 Vac three-phase power systems.  PC Krause and Associates is proposing a dc-ac distribution box (DADB) based on state-of-the-art wide-bandgap semiconductor devices that minimizes size and weight, maximizes power capability, and satisfies the electrical power quality requirements outlined in MIL-PRF-GCS600A, MIL-STD-704F, MIL-STD-1332B, and MIL-STD-461F.  The DADB will support communication and control concepts as specified in the tactical microgrid standard while providing stand-alone and microgrid-embedded operating capability, with limited or no human interaction required beyond system setup.
