Description

PolyMaterials App, LLC (henceforth PolyMaterials), in collaboration with Dr. Sagar Pandit, Professor of Physics, and Dr. Arash Takshi, Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering from University of South Florida (USF) and Dr. Steve Marantz from Biotech, presents an innovative proposal to construct a supercapbattery (SCB) prototype with high energy and high power. This innovative concept has the potential to produce a new SCB that has the energy density of a state-of-the-art rechargeable battery and the power density of a conventional supercapacitor. The design of the SCB will have a large surface area based on pseudocapacitive electrode materials which should have multi-electron transfer redox properties. The development of the proposed SCB will be supported by architectures of the electrodes and electrode/electrolyte interfaces. It will perform preliminary analyses of the SCB’s capabilities, and design models tailored for Airforce’s energy storage applications. Specifically, the objective of the SBIR project is to develop a flexible prototype supercapbattery cell with targeted properties, namely, a specific capacitance >600 F/g, operating temperature range -80 to +100 oC, specific power >50 kW/kg, energy density > 100 Wh/kg and a cycle life of ~100,000 cycles.  PolyMaterials brings an innovative solution for the development and construction of a highly efficient energy storage device. The modeling, design and preliminary analysis of the supercapbattery will be achieved in Phase I, in anticipation of achieving or exceeding the requirements set forth by the Airforce. PolyMaterials has partnered with Raytheon Technologies who is interested in the development of supercapacitors for the United States Airforce and other Department of Defense (DOD) customers. Further, Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control (LMMFC) is interested and has expressed a keen interest in this project. LMMFC has an interest in partnering with PolyMaterials App, LLC to develop and mature their supercapbattery technology by providing relevant test conditions and requirements, providing test and evaluation facilities for this technology.  JABIL (commercial company) has discussed teaming to assist PolyMaterials to further investigate develop, industrialize and or commercialize the supercapacitor technology (letter attached). Also, DAWNBREAKER®, another Commercial Company has partnered with PolyMaterials and will provide market research to assist PolyMaterials with the successful transition of this technology.
