Description

PolyMaterials App, LLC proposes to develop a prototype supercapacitor cell suited for MDA applications in Phase II after a very successful Phase I effort which addressed, topic number MDA19-007 titled,” Supercapacitor Nano-architecture Using Bicarbon-based Materials Derived From Plant Cellulose”. Specifically, the objective of the SBIR project is to develop a flexible prototype supercapacitor cell using cellulose as the prime material, and meeting the various target properties (specific capacitance >500 F/g, operating temperature range -80 to +100 oC and energy density of 35 -150 Wh/kg and a cycle life of ~100,000 cycles, voltage range varying from 2-4 V). We propose to continue our collaboration with University of South Florida and BetaBiotica LLC to develop bacterial cellulose based nano-materials electrodes for supercapacitor. PolyMaterials have partnered with Raytheon Defense who is interested in the development supercapacitors for MDA and other DOD customers. Further, the commercial company, JABIL has committed in developing the automation for fabrication of supercapacitor electrodes as well as help in commercial sector. The prototype device will be fabricated and delivered to MDA which will be demonstrated in Phase II. The Phase III will see the commercial transition for missile as well as civilian applications.
