Description
Maritime patrol operations have served a crucial role in protection of U.S. forces over land and sea for the past century. Within the patrol squadrons, the tactical coordinator (TACCO) is the keystone crew member responsible for full operations and decision-making during patrol missions. Robust training methods need to be employed that provide TACCOs with structuralized tactical and strategic practice that focus on the underlying components of these operations. Currently, TACCOs are not provided with supplemental training to fine tune their anti-submarine warfare (ASW) knowledge and skills prior to extensive and expensive full-team simulation and field training. The current proposed solution seeks to generate a computer-based, low-fidelity, standalone training system, with the ability to provide TACCOs with simulated scenarios. This solution will also allow them to customize their own scenarios for added training reinforcement. This is intended to not require instructor or team support to increase the flexibility of training schedules. Further, this training system will help TACCOs maintain their knowledge and skills of patrol strategies and tactics between deployed missions.
