Description

RC Integrated Systems LLC (RISL), with support from Lockheed Martin, Boeing, and Dawnbreaker, proposes to develop an Intelligent Condition Awareness Monitoring (ICAM) System for aircraft operational data recording and analysis to achieve real-time health and usage monitoring. Boeing and Lockheed Martin have expressed their interests in this technology for applications in their vertical lift programs and Dawnbreaker will assist RISL in transition of ICAM to military platforms and commercial systems.  ICAM is based on RISL’s proprietary fiber optic (FO) sensing technology, commercial miniature FO transceiver, and artificial intelligence diagnostics and prognostics algorithm. ICAM is an all FO solution, achieving measurement of temperature, strain, vibration, and pressure on non-rotating components with high spatial resolution as well as measurement of speed and vibration of rotating parts. The ICAM system will contain 12 FO channels each consisting of at least 50 sensors for measurement of non-rotating parts, 5 FO channels for measurement of rotating components, and a FO transceiver for transmitting analog/digital signals and data of legacy sensors and control systems through optical fiber.  In Phase I, RISL will design the airborne-qualified ICAM system architecture capable of receiving inputs from FO strain, temperature, and vibration sensors. Phase I will also demonstrate the flight readiness of key optical components and electrical designs in accordance with MIL-STD 810G specifications. A laboratory prototype will be developed for testing and demonstrations. In Phase II, RISL will develop an ICAM prototype, test it in simulated conditions, and deliver it to the Army for further testing.
