Sketchbox3D, based in San Francisco, CA, specializes in Virtual Reality (VR) training and simulation technology. Sketchbox was part of YCombinator’s Winter 2018 batch. Sketchbox has developed a proprietary set of ‘building blocks’ that enables them to design, build and launch high quality VR training simulations, for portable VR headsets. Sketchbox uses their proprietary building blocks to build VR training simulations and other VR applications for companies like IBM, 3M and Corning. If selected for a SBIR Phase II, Sketchbox has an additional commitment of up to $6 million in private capital to contribute to the success of this project. The VR ‘building blocks’ developed by Sketchbox have been used broadly in the commercial sector to create a wide variety of high quality, adaptable training simulations for the next generation of portable VR headsets. Sketchbox will work with the DoD to build support for VR peripherals such as tools used by maintenance technicians so VR training simulations can support real, physical objects which would otherwise require dedicated ‘part-task’ trainers.
