Description

There is a need for an Assured-PNT device that can operate in a passive mode, without revealing the vessel’s location, while meeting the accuracy requirements in GPS denied environments for restricted piloting as well as coastal and open water navigation.     Assured PNT devices have been developed that use inertial and clock components to provide positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) in the absence of GPS.  However the PNT accuracy from these devices degrades over time without GPS.  Some A-PNT devices incorporate a Software Defined Radio (SDR) that can receive Signals of Opportunity (SoOP) which can be used for aiding, but these generally require connection to a radio network for operation.   In this proposal, NAVSYS describes an ALT-NAV solution that can be used when the GNSS bands are denied and can provide global updates to PNT devices without requiring radio network access.  Under the Phase I effort we shall demonstrate feasibility of the proposed ALT-NAV solution through modeling and simulation and provide lab test results to supporting the viability of the approach.  We shall also provide initial design specifications and capabilities description for prototype ALT-NAV A-PNT devices that will be delivered and demonstrated under Phase II.
