Description

The United States Navy desires a safe, high performance (high energy and power - capable of supporting pulse type loads) lithium ion (Liion) battery that offers the ability to be stored for long periods at ~ zero volt (0V). To address these needs, ADA Technologies, Inc. (ADA) will implement our energy dense, high power, ~ 0V as a drop-in solution to be implemented in existing Navy applications. Our solution is based on the electrochemical pairing of a commercial anode active material that allots discharge and storage to ~ 0V (cell voltage level) and our high voltage, high energy/power LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 (LNMO) cathode. Active material modifications (e.g. atomic level coatings) will be investigated to enhance battery stability and provide long cycle life performance. This technology provides a flat voltage profile closely matching the nominal voltage of currently employed graphite//LiFePO4 (LFP) cells affording a plug-and-play solution with minimal modifications. We will further implement high voltage, nonflammable electrolytes to maximize safety and performance during operation leveraging our contemporary relationships with industry leading electrolyte developers/providers.
