Description

There is a need to replace toxic obscurant smokes with non-toxic alternatives, without sacrificing the efficacy of the obscurant. The non-toxic visible obscurant formulations identified in Phase I will be further optimized in Phase II to produce aerosols that are high mass extinction, high mass yield obscurants. The efficacy of these formulations will be determined in various environmental conditions, using fielded dissemination methods. As the performance of the obscurants are determined, the formulations will be tuned to provide an optimal obscurant across the various conditions. Adaptation of the dissemination methods to alternative form factors will be explored to ensure these obscurants are widely applicable in all desired use cases.
