Description
ADA Technologies, Inc. proposes to transition our previously developed BB-2590 Hybrid Electrical Energy Storage System (HEESS) architecture into a Conformable Wearable Battery format, or CWB-HEESS (Figure 1). We seek to satisfy a meaningful, Army Program Executive Office (PEO) Soldier need for a rechargeable, safe and high energy CWB. We anticipate the CWB-HEESS will have broad U.S. Dept. of Defense (DoD; Army and Marine Corps) appeal, to meet a range of U.S. military CONOPS (concepts of operations). We will provide a CWB with pulse power characteristics (projected ~10 kW/kg) in a high energy system (100-150 Wh/kg). The system is enabled via electronics to isolate the battery from the supercapacitor to improve the end-to-end efficiency from the battery to the load while accounting for the relative diminutive rate capability of the high-energy Li-ion battery. Pulse power capability is enhanced due to ADA’s state-of-the-art (SOTA) supercapacitor that provides 10x the energy (~15 Wh/kg at cell level) of a common supercapacitor significantly improving the duty cycle—duration, magnitude and frequency of the pulse.
