Description
Americas current electronic warfare (EW) capabilities are insufficient for the modern and future battlefield. To safeguard against radio-controlled threats and disrupt enemy communications, our current EW systems blindly jam broad swaths of the electromagnetic spectrum (EMS). This approach interferes with Blue Force data and voice communications, requires large power sources and generates distinct radio frequency (RF) footprints that can be easily tracked and located by adversaries. The size weight and power (SWaP) profiles of these systems are too large for foot-mobile soldiers, and their substantial RF footprints put our warfighters at risk from adversary RF tracking systems. There is an immediate and unmet need for a low-cost, scalable, open architecture, networked intelligent jammer for warfighter training and foot-mobile operation support. Additionally, warfighters have expressed the requirement for an integrated EW capability that not only disrupts the enemys communications, but also provides the location of the enemys signal. This enables the warfighter to either direct the emitters toward the signal making the emitters more difficult for the enemy to locate or kinetically attack the enemy. This document proposes to advance the EW system being developed under STTR PH II of this topic to significantly reduce SWaP and add a geolocation capability.
