Description
The Air Force rebuilds and tests many aircraft and ground-power generators each year, involving many hours of loaded run-time. Currently, the generator testing uses resistive load banks, meaning that all of the energy is wasted. To improve facility energy efficiency and to have a positive environmental impact, a regenerative ac/dc load bank is proposed to push power from generator testing back to the electric grid. The proposed generator power recapture unit (GPRU) will load the generators according to their respective test procedures by emulating resistive and inductive loads. The GPRU will support testing of single/three phase generators operating at 400 Hz, 50/60Hz and dc.
