Description

Corvid utilizes a high fidelity computational physics (HFCP) development approach to improve system survivability, leveraging predictive modeling and simulation to develop energy absorbing (EA) technologies. Highly resolved meshed models, sophisticated non-linear strength and failure constitutive models, a massively scalable physics solver, and high performance computing (HPC) resources are brought to bear to achieve technology improvement goals. In Phase I, Corvid began development of a HFCP model of the H-60M Black Hawk and performed simulations of impact into several media types at various approach angles.EA seat systems were identified, modeled, and HFCP simulations were performed of vertical drop tests.Results were benchmarked with AFRL seat and Anthropomorphic Test Device (ATD) data.During Phase II, Corvid will leverage the aircraft, seat, and ATD research completed in Phase I to perform fully coupled simulations of aircraft and crew to predict injury as compared to test data.This capability will be leveraged to develop and evaluate the EA materials and components identified in Phase I for crashworthiness improvement.Testing will also be conducted in Phase II to validate HFCP analysis.
