Description

Peripheral IV placement, a common and important step in patient care, suffers from a low first-pass success rate. Repeated attempts are painful and lead to catheter failure due to other painful processes such as inflammation, infiltration and infection. Expert providers have higher first-pass success rates and lower incidence of IV failure, which translate to reduced pain for the patient. Through deconstruction of the most important and error-prone steps in IV placement, InnoVital Systems has begun developing a device that allows novice users to perform like experts and experts under suboptimal conditions to perform better, increasing the ease and success rate of the procedure while reducing patient discomfort. The “IV/Pilot” will be iteratively refined, prototyped, and tested to demonstrate safety and effectiveness in the Phase II effort. The combined engineering and medical skillset and experience of the InnoVital team lowers the risk of the effort and enables its success. Furthermore, InnoVital’s specific experience with the development of procedural aids for pre-hospital and acute care providers and existing relationships with relevant industry partners puts it in the best position for delivering a useful product.
