Description

Moisture wicking textiles are desirable for their use in performance apparel for both casual and high stress wear. This functionality can be further improved upon from current designs through materials improvements, introduction of wicking directionality, or the combination of the two. These textiles are especially useful in military applications, as soldiers are susceptible to experiencing a broad range of environments. When layered with other commodities, such as backpacks or coats, wicking functionality can be especially important to ensure comfort and function throughout a mission. For this effort, Nano Terra proposes to perform a thorough feasibility study of the current landscape of textile treatments and create a testing platform in order to develop, design, and create selective moisture wicking textiles. Nano Terra will conduct a comprehensive literature search and use its knowledge and expertise of surface chemistry, printing and patterning techniques, fabrication and process development, and manufacturing to create and evaluate laboratory samples. Nano Terra will analyze and evaluate performance metrics and manufacturing implications to determine the optimal embodiment for moisture management textiles.
