Description
ThermAvant proposes to develop and demonstrate an oscillating heat pipe (OHP) heat sink paired with a thermoelectric generator (TEG) to convert medium-quality heat into high-quality electrical energy for man-portable battery charging system. Key innovations include a collapsible heat sink with ultra-high effective thermal conductivity structural elements, surface enhancements, and air flow management features to maximize heat transfer coefficients from cold-side heat sink to ambient using natural convection. Further, state-of-the-art TEG elements will be integrated with the OHP heat sink to deliver best-in-class thermal-electric conversion efficiency with minimal size, weight and cost using readily available heat sources for mobile warfighters
