Description
ABSTRACT: Our proposal addresses the requirements of the solicitation to develop and deploy tools, methods, and models to provide an innovative simplified software/hardware toolset to verify the performance parameters of digital recorder systems and recorder memory modules to test IRIG compatibility and standards compliance. The proposed EDAptive RIVAL solution builds on previous Edaptive Computing, Inc. (ECI) knowledge and technology. The resulting capabilities will provide an innovative simplified validation system that tests any data recorder for compliance to IRIG standards. ECIs capabilities and expertise are ideally-suited to applying open-source software and commercially available hardware solutions and is key to achieving the objective of increasing the interoperability of IRIG compliant devices.The IRIG instrumentation data format is complex and has been updated many times. IRIGs complexity requires validation for accurate conformance to the specification to insure reliable data interchange amongst range instrumentation. We will provide for the validation of any IRIG recording device or memory module using standard hardware and open-source software, using plug-in hardware compatibility to permit device interoperability and modular software design to accommodate hardware and software upgrades. This will be delivered on a mobile platform whose use is simple to master via an intuitive interface.; BENEFIT: The result of our effort is to provide a solution to the issue of IRIG 106, Chapter 10 validation and to provide hardware compatibility with all required devices. Through the use of our technology it will be possible to verify that devices of different types and interfaces are interoperable and are consistent in their support of the IRIG standard. By providing a portable and easy to use device, we can facilitate field testing of all types of devices under many different environmental conditions. Ease of use, being an important goal of our UI development, will allow for easy training and a high degree of confidence in the results produced.Considering the pervasiveness of IRIGs use on range instrumentation (as well as other related devices) there should be significant commercial follow on in supporting new hardware interfaces as well as support for changes to the IRIG standard. The development process will closely adhere to best practices for modularity and extensibility, to allow for a very natural and straightforward path to upgrades for both hardware and software capabilities.
