Description
Howell Laboratories, Inc.s (HLIs) ultrasonic antifouling system consists of ultrasonic devices deployed along the side of a boats hull to prevent biofouling. Most deployment methods involve hull modification; the proposed system involves no hull modifications and can be deployed in seawater or freshwater adjacent to a boat. Phase I will result in a robust analysis into the feasibility of using an ultrasonic device to prevent biofouling while a ship or submarine is in port. At the completion of the Phase I Option, HLI will be prepared to conduct a full prototype test. Phase II completion will result in development of a cost-effective, submarine antifouling method or system that inhibits biofouling during in-port periods. Success will mitigate biofouling concerns and free up valuable maintenance resources to meet Operational Availability schedules while reducing life-cycle maintenance costs. This team has a strong history of bringing product designs to market and has the engineering expertise to create a reliable and functional product.
