Description

The Army's medic training largely disregards the anatomical and physiological differences between males and females. In fact, current Tactical Combat Casualty Care manikins are male and thus cannot realistically represent female anatomy. There are some existing products that together might be able to address this problem, such  as PerSim, our current commercial mixed reality simulator that includes female patients. Although our virtual patients can be easily aligned with most male manikins, we propose to update our system to support female manikins. Additionally, our product cannot directly communicate with other simulators.  Thus, we propose to make PerSim more interoperable with other companies’ simulators via an open-source application programming interface(API).  Compared to current products, we expect our proposed solution will elicit stronger emotional responses from trainees, will be more cost effective, and will enable more realistic simulated female patients. Commercial Potential: Since being released in 4th quarter of 2017, there are over 100 institutions that have purchased PerSim®, resulting in direct sales of over $1M FY 2022 alone. Most institutions are using the system for EMS training, effectively training thousands of trainees per year. Moreover, MedCognition has active tradeshow, email,  and social media marketing campaigns, along with a joint marketing agreement with Microsoft and agreements with national sales distributors, which boost the company’s marketing efforts and commercialization potential of the product.
