Description

With the global reach of our US military and civilian population, with the threat of use of chemical and biological warfare, and the spread of deadly viruses in the world; it has become necessary to have containment options for large scale transport of hazardous/contaminated materials that meet the strict national, international and US Air Force standards for air transport. In this Phase I SBIR, Production Products, with our subcontract Mercer Engineering Research Center, intends to address this need with the design and development of a high-strength/low-weight, impermeable container capable of carryinghazardous materials. The Contaminated Materials Transfer Container (CMTC), will be a multi-wall construction that utilizes innovative composite materials and manufacturing technologies to provide large-scale, highly durable, impermeable and leak-proof hazardous material containment. In the Phase I program the CMTC design will undergo aggressive simulation analysis to prove performance goals and further insure the low risk to failure in Phase II prototype fabrication and test.The CMTC will not only meet the needs for air transport for the DoD, but will meet needs for all transportation of hazard materials in the commercial sector to include vans, trucks, railroads, ships and airplanes.
