Description

Most military applications are heavily dependent on having robust positioning and require a back-up to GPS in the event that these signals are degraded, denied, or destroyed.In the case of DARPA's RadioMap program, its ability to command and control a heterogeneous sensor network and provide radio frequency (RF) situational awareness at a strategic and tactical level is contingent on the individual sensors maintaining and sharing positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) data.Previous DARPA sponsored research demonstrated a Distributed Network Opportunistic Positioning (DiNO-Pos), capability which demonstrated a back-up PNT capability through simultaneous location of remote networked Software Defined Radios (SDRs) and mapping of radio frequency signals of opportunity (SoOP).The Wireless And Large-scale Distributed Operations (WALDO) approach developed for RadioMap includes the ability to readily integrate new third party functionality and features.
