Description
ABSTRACT: This program will develop next generation fiber optic transceiver technologies to support high speed data communications on airborne platforms. We investigate innovative technology to increase the data rate and reduce the power consumption of fiber optic components. We take advantage of recent advancements in VCSEL technology to create compact components without the need for thermal control. BENEFIT: A compact VCSEL-base transceiver, operating at 10 Gbps per channel and a removable pigtail connector, would reduce the power consumption and costs associated with airborne fiber optic networks.
