Description
This program will develop a robust, low-cost multi-fiber optic array feedthrough subassembly, and related materials and manufacturing processes, for avionic fiber optic transceivers. The goal is a system for creating fiber array connectors suitable for multi-mode fiber (MMF) and single-mode fiber (SMF) active components. A capability to create parallel transceivers with removable pigtails has been identified by multiple prime contractors across multiple DOD platforms as a clear path to reducing the cost of fiber systems on all fronts: manufacturing, installing, maintaining, and replacing.
