Description

Naval Control Systems (NCSs) must balance two competing objectives.  First and most importantly, they must be safe and cyber secure.  Second, they must be highly integrated, flexible, precise, and accurate.  The first objective is unique to the DoD.  NCS systems commonly interact with weapons, making human safety a prime consideration.  This is not a requirement in commercial industry. Also, while commercial industry has standards for cybersecurity, most commercial enterprises do not face adversaries with the same sophistication as DoD’s   Commercial industry made tremendous advancements in continuous software integration and delivery, making companies more agile, responsive, and competitive.  Navy cannot leverage the power of these technologies due to unique safety and cybersecurity requirements facing NCS.   IDT proposes a solution extending current IDT SBIR developed technologies to address these unique challenges: Gemini.  Gemini includes bare-metal system teleport and rigorous behavioral and configuration assessment.  Remote developers build and test their systems in a lab environment, teleport the system to a staging environment on ship, and assess the performance of the staging environment against the operational platform on the ship.  Once reviewers are satisfied the system is safe and secure, the Gemini takes the staging system live.
