Description

When fully developed, HMC’s Rapid Expandable Mobile Shelter (REMS) will deliver to U.S. Army a highly versatile, compact, lightweight and logistically simple to operate expeditionary mobile shelter for U.S. expeditionary warfighters. The REMS system will allow warfighters to be exceptionally mobile and support their needs to rapidly deploy into any theater of operation regardless of its maturity level. In particular, REMS will facilitate rapid and logistically simple expansion, collapse & storage, provide insulating protection from inclement weather, possess a small and stealthy signature, and be structurally sound and adequately sized to accommodate squad sized units. REMS is comprised of a robust structural frame that is engineered to rapidly and reliably expand and collapse with logistic simplicity and ease. Importantly, the REMS fabric and liner are integrated onto the expandable frame so that deployment is a single task effort requiring a single person only 5 minutes to complete. REMS will facilitate both ground mounted and LTT trailer platform mounted design variants that encloses approximately 230-ft2 of floor space and provide a minimum 7-ft ceiling height over a working space of 180-ft2. The functionality of REMS will enable it to be initially trailer mounted and then easily removed by warfighters from the trailer platform to become a ground mounted REMS as mission conditions dictate. Both configurations will be capable of accommodating a combat squad of up to nine (9) personnel or five (5) personnel plus additional equipment storage space. In the collapsed configuration, the trailer mounted REMS design variant will provide 50-ft2 of equipment storage space.
