Description
The THMRS concept is a late stage in-flight deployable dynamic air braking system designed to soft land nose mounted test hardware for recovery. There are several significant challenges to overcome but with proper understanding and analysis of the physics involved a successful design ultimately can be fielded. There are two developmental paths that come to the forefront, while each takes a different approach, both have excellent potential. A base deployed recovery module designed to Decelerate, Despin, Orient and Stabilize (DDO&S) a complete projectile is one concept to be considered provided a staged methodology can be successfully modeled and confirmed by simulation. It is envisioned that several soft recovery method after DDO&S is the deployment of either a deployed air bag style bomb retarder, impact airbag, ballute or customized parachute .
