Description

HMCs Phase II work involved successful development and performance validation of a PFG prototype capable of consistently producing > 90% PO dissemination yield and gFOM higher than that of the currently deployed M106 obscurant grenade. Of particular importance in the Phase II design cycle was development of a PFG that excludes the use of dangerous explosives which can cause injury to the user or collateral fire damage to surrounding structures, particularly in urban terrain. HMCs Microwave Carbon Fiber Dissemination Device (MWCF-DD), also developed during its current Phase II work, utilizes innovative mechanical and pneumatic shear forces that efficiently entrain and separate bulk MWCF payloads into individual fibers prior to dissemination to ambient. The current MWCF-DD supports the dissemination of 50-100 gram MWCF payloads over the course of 25-50 seconds while minimizing safety logistics and preventing fiber damage.
