Description

REscan was formed in 2015 as a Stanford Research Institute (SRI International) spinoff company. The company emerged from stealth mode in 2020, and is headquartered on SRI International’s 63-acre research campus in Silicon Valley. REscan has designed and built a patented Spatial Communication System that provides an end-to-end solution for digitizing large indoor and outdoor areas from a human point-of-view. This data is analyzed, segmented, reconstructed, and then accessed via REscan’s intuitive App on any mobile device. The system comprises a scanner helmet, a 3D reconstruction and streaming pipeline, and a mobile viewer application. REscan’s technology is capable of scanning up to 250,000 square feet/hour, providing the ability to scan very large facilities quickly and with minimal disruption to operations (all human images are eliminated from the scanned data). The resulting 3D models can also include WIFI and GPS signal strength, the position of IoT sensors in a space, and enable further analysis using ML and AI tools to optimize facility usage, and introduce automated services, all while providing enhanced security and resilience during a crisis. REscan’s system is fully interoperable, and can ingest and process all industry standard point clouds, tessellated meshes, and constructive geometry file types, making it an ideal option where scanned data already exists.  REscan is made up of computer vision engineers, programmers, mechanical engineers, commercial real estate entrepreneurs, and veterans of the video game industry. While the commercial real estate market remains a key focus for the company, 2021 has seen the company grow in new markets, including commercial airports, public schools, and industrial manufacturing facilities. The company was also honored with three prestigious Red Dot Design awards in 2021 for its spatial data management system, as well as with a Muse Design Award for its 3D scanning helmet.  For this SBIR Direct to Phase II, REscan will create a Digital Fire Inspection System for Patrick SFB’s Fire Department. The System will provide an interoperable 3D digital scan of the physical asset where users will be able to label fire equipment, easily create and share information about specific elements in the environment, and securely access this data via mobile device. This system will also enable machine learning applications, such as automated fire equipment detection and inventorying.  REscan has continued its R&D with Patrick FD by performing test scans on several buildings on base to begin understanding the FD’s needs for spatial awareness in these facilities. If successful, the capabilities developed during this R&D program can be extended to every fire department and base in the DAF, potentially saving millions of dollars in recouped time, not to mention contributing as a force multiplier to keep fire protection professionals on task saving lives and protecting property.
