Description
In Phase I, the RTSync team investigated the design of a non-real-time simulation platform that created an opportunity to radically change the way simulation utilizing enterprises include high fidelity models of software systems within their simulations. The new approach to developing and testing proposed System of System (SoS) architectures is to employ models of hardware systems that execute the unmodified operationally relevant software systems of interest, and thereby allow such software to be used in discrete event simulation models. The DEVSformalism was developed on the firm mathematical system theory foundation and constitutes a well-founded computational basis for System theory-based modeling and simulation (M&S) needed by today’s digital engineering. The mathematical theory helps ensure reliable system implementation and accurate simulation time management. During Phase II, based upon our investigations and conclusions in Phase 1, we propose an implementation of DEVS based on the proposed sequential simulation protocol for supporting accurate non-real-time simulation of “as-is” operational software called DEVS-based virtual as is simulation test platform (DVAST).
