Description
Mobility and logistics are critical components for planning and executing military operations. Maximally efficient operations in this arena are critical to strategic success, but the complexity of global mobility is beyond the capabilities of even the most dedicated operators and the best existing tools. Additionally, the Department of Defense is actively working to prepare for a contested logistics environment, which could range from direct attacks on mobility assets to domestic terrorism. Pre-planned resiliency and rapid and efficient responses are required in these events to respond and adapt in training, exercise, and real-world operations. This proposal aims to address training shortfalls and transportation disruption needs within the USAF’s Air Mobility Command. Specifically, a software platform will be assembled that will enable end-users to work within a constructed simulated environment with an AI-driven integrated intelligent agent to evaluate new strategies in the event of a perturbation (adversarial attack, natural disaster). The software will be designed to support both training and day-to-day operations, able to respond to situations in real time. This software will provide end-users with a cost-effective solution to improve resiliency in the event of a transportation disruption, propose and test new strategies, and train against an intelligent adversary. This is a dual-use application which can be adapted for use in non-defense commercial sectors for end users (e.g. major retailers and package delivery services) for response optimization in the event of a transportation disruption. This SBIR will result in a software package that will enable end users to evaluate a variety of operational scenarios, understand and respond to crucial decision points, and enhance training and operations.
