SOLVE TECHNOLOGY AND RESEARCH, INC — Department of Defense SBIR Phase II: DLA211-005
SOLVE TECHNOLOGY AND RESEARCH, INC — SBIR Phase II award from Department of Defense.
Phase II SBIR prototype / development signal
- Phase II is where Department of Defense funds deeper R&D after feasibility. Incumbents with Phase II history are serious competitors on adjacent topics.
- Use this award as past-performance context and to map customer organizations for STRATFI/TACFI-style transition planning.
- At $1,950,977, this is a large obligation for typical SBIR Phase sizing — worth reviewing for scope breadth and teaming opportunity.
- Topic code DLA211-005 links this award to a solicitation family — search the same topic stem for incumbents and recompete timing.

Description
The proposed innovation delivers a product quality assurance approach that integrates an automated particle shape, size and color measurement tool with a machine learning architecture, that enables use of recycled powder without compromising fatigue life. The machine learning algorithm consists of a two-fold module – first, imaging the particle size, shape and color and correlate to the recycled powder characteristics and secondly, enabling a high throughput testing tool to establish the correlation of recycled powder impact on component fatigue life. This integrated approach can be applied for any additive manufacturing process, machine, or material, thus enabling a broad applicability to the overall emerging AM industry.
