Description

The DoD has identified a need for more non-lethal options for vehicle and vessel stopping.  High power microwave (HPM) weapons, including Non-Linear Transmission Line (NLTL) sources, provide a robust, non-lethal, counter-electronics option otherwise impossible for conventional munitions.  Existing technologies do not offer the range or form-factor required for practical operations in the field.  The Broadband Engine-stOppeR Nltl (BEORN) system offered here will improve and extend the ability of US War Fighters in this critical DoD capability need.  BEORN consists of an ultrawideband (UWB) NLTL source, driven by a solid-state pulsed power driver, and feeding an extremely compact UWB antenna (such as the Verus Research proprietary Ferengi).  As part of this SBIR effort Verus Research will team with Energetrix to assemble a prototype and provide an early demonstration of vehicle/vessel engine estopping in the initial phase and option.  This work will set a clear path to an evaluation of a longer-range, operationally robust, array-based system that is compact and affordable in the follow-up Phases.
