Description

One of the most pressing problems at the forefront of machine learning and computer vision research is image recognition when high quality labeled data is difficult to acquire, typically due to the prohibitive cost of data acquisition and annotation. Clarifai has teamed with L3Harris to combine their unparalleled experience in simulating geospatial sensors with our award-winning computer vision capabilities.  The work proposed here is proving the ability of simulated data to train computer vision algorithms, and also using the insights from these algorithms to improve the parameters that are used in the simulated data. Working directly with the simulation team will enable us to establish a strong baseline of performance for using simulated data during training, which will be used to evaluate performance as we expand our studies to domain adaptation and the use of generative models to enhance simulated data and generate data as well. \n\n   \n\n Clarifai is the industry's leading independent artificial intelligence company headquartered in New York City with offices in San Francisco and Washington D.C.  Founded in 2013 by Dr. Matthew Zeiler, a foremost expert in machine learning, Clarifai has been a market leader since winning the top five places in the image classification challenge at the ImageNet 2013 competition. Clarifai provides powerful AI and Machine Learning (ML) image and video recognition solutions, built on the most advanced machine learning platform, empowering businesses all over the world to build the next generation of intelligent applications. Our team provides image and video recognition solutions to the Department of Defense, Intelligence Community, and commercial customers like West Elm, Trivago, and Opentable. In November 2019, Clarifai was named a visionary leader in The Forrester New Wave: Computer Vision Platforms, Q4 2019 report. Also, in November 2019, Clarifai was ranked 71th Fastest Growing Company in North America on Deloitte’s 2019 Technology Fast 500. \n\n   \n\n L3Harris has a long history as the gold standard in sensor modeling of remote sensing systems. With over 40 years of sensor modeling experience for commercial and government customers, our team has extensive breadth and depth of available sensor modeling expertise. Our capabilities have endured the test of time as system after system has been modeled and the simulations validated once the systems became operational.
