Description

IDT reviewed N211-058, interviewed technical points of contact, and collected corporate experience on other NAVSEA projects.  Through these discussions, IDT came to understand PMS 406’s desire to incorporate automated commercial technologies like Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) Intrusion Prevent System (IPS) and Security Incident Event Monitoring (SIEM) on unmanned and under-manned systems such as the LUSV and FFG(X).  IDT is also aware of the unique challenges facing Navy in this space, inhibiting COTS adoption.  There are no highly-skilled humans in the network operations loop, these systems operate in a heavily cyber contested environments, and Navy cannot afford vendor lock-in to any COTS vendors.  These reasons inhibit Navy’s ability to deploy them on autonomous and undermanned platforms. On other SBIR projects IDT has developed technologies to solve most individual elements of the problem described above.  On this Phase I SBIR, IDT proposes to integrate these existing technologies to the solve the Navy specific issues in a solution IDT calls “Black Mirror”.  Black Mirror combines AI/ML techniques with an on-board expendable Digital Twin.  The AI/ML reduces Probability of False Alarm, and the Digital Twin verifies security changes do not inhibit external communications.  Black Mirror enables Navy to operate autonomous networks securely with no humans in the loop in an open architecture.
