Description

The purpose of this SBIR is to develop wireless machinery health monitoring system for Navy vessels to continuously monitor for component wear through the collection of vibration and power consumption data. The top level requirements for this system are (1) vibration measurement, (2) non-intrusive power measurement, (3) capturing data on a configurable interval, (4) wirelessly communicating raw data, and (5) self- powered. During Phase I, the feasibility and expected performance of a system to meet the functionality and SWaP-C (size, weight, power, and cost) will be determined through modeling, analysis, and/or test. During Phase II, the system design will be implemented and prototyped. The McQ team will leverage its experience in the design of health monitoring sensors, compact sensor hardware, low power design, and communications networks in the research and design of the machinery vibration and power (MVP) sensor. McQ’s approach is to develop a design that will advance contactless power measurement technology with smaller and lower cost tools that will facilitate wide-scale deployment. The resulting design will be a compact sensor for mounting directly to the equipment for monitoring vibration and power.
