Shipcom’s Catamaran solution is a web-based software platform built on Microsoft infrastructure, and the core software application is a business middleware and Rapid Application Development environment divided into various modules and tools set to achieve complex solutions. A variety of technologies including barcode, active RFID, passive RFID, GPS, and other data collection devices are supported, which can be implemented individually or together to meet customer-specific challenges and needs Our proposed technical approach is to utilize the Shipcom Catamaran platform as the baseline configuration for extending functionality to cover 2 Focus Areas identified in Topic N201-X02. Our primary Focus -Area is the (6) Global Parts Tracking System. Our secondary Focus Areas will be (7) Facility Health Monitoring and Prioritization. Our approach consists of gathering requirements that are unique to Navy Shipyards with regard to maintenance and repair. These requirements will drive further development and configuration on the Catamaran platform in the form of 3 sprints – 1 sprint each for each of the Focus Areas above and a final sprint for preparing and conducting the demonstration – during the period of performance. This approach will deliver significant value to the Navy tied to one Small Business Innovation Research project. We have a deep understanding of the Navy requirement for this project based on our recent work for Ingalls Shipbuilding. Material and parts tracking in industrial environments – like distribution centers, outdoor material laydown yards and manufacturing shops or warehouses – is a challenging proposition. There is significant room for human error when dealing with large quantities of materials that must have tracking logistics for project hulls, fabrication schedules, and an expansive set of pick-up locations. There are also challenges related to the physical layout of facilities that may affect timely movement of material and tools. Efficient tracking of material, parts and other assets in this environment can yield significant return on investment based on time savings associated with recapturing time tied to searching for lost material or assets. Ingalls Shipbuilding features many of these large open storage spaces, filled with materials and containers that are moved regularly and on a frequent basis. Shipcom’s solution provides a modern mobility-based material tracking system using actionable intelligence to capture transactions at the locations where the work is occurring. Such a solution captures a significant number of tasks associated with the receipt, inspection and movement of material and manufactured assemblies – slashing time spent processing and issuing, reducing waste and loss, and creating money-saving efficiencies from day one. This solution can be reconfigured to address the needs and requirements of Navy Shipyards that focus on maintenance and repair. Our proposed cost for this effort is $199,996.70.
