Description

In the aid and relief of disaster situations, being able to rapidly distribute medicine and equipment is essential to saving lives. Accelerating response and delivery time in these situations plays a pivotal role in providing immediate delivery of emergency medical supplies to aid casualties in remote or otherwise unreachable locations. Emergency supplies and care can be difficult to administer in austere environments as areas may not be accessible due to infrastructure destruction, debris, or other geographic challenges. To combat this issue, Navatek proposes to develop a Shock Absorbing Module for Unmanned Rapid Aerial Intervention (SAMURAI) for delivery of emergency medical supplies using Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UASs). SAMURAI contains a notional five-pound payload envelope for aerial delivery of medical supplies using shock absorbing technology to safely release the payload from up to 100-feet above the ground without requiring a parachute. The SAMURAI system utilizes flat-packed materials, engineering computational solutions, and COTs technologies to develop catered air-drop shock mitigation at the point of need to facilitate rapid access to necessary medical supplies to disaster victims in any location or terrain.
