Description

GVSC is actively seeking a technology that will significantly enhance the acceleration, deceleration, ascending, descending, and turning performances for all of the Army Ground vehicles resulting in augmented crew survivability, with more effective vehicle mission enabling performance. A critical component of a wheel assembly is SiC Technologies can provide and integrate the next generation lightweight hybrid composite brake rotor system. Having a significant reduction in rotating mass (1/3rd the weight of steel), this 1 for 1 exchange product will improve acceleration, deceleration, and overall performance of the vehicle. It takes approximately 18 lbf-ft of torque to get four 21-pound disc brakes spinning up to 80 mph and back down to zero when braking. The lighter 7.85-pound hybrid carbon ceramic disc (with bell/hub) requires approximately 5.64 lbf-ft of torque, which is significantly more savings in torque and energy required to accelerate and decelerate the same vehicle. Effectively, the vehicle now has 12.36 lbf-ft more available torque as well as increased horsepower. The driver will have more confidence and control of the vehicle, increased acceleration, and increased deceleration. Figure
