Description

Battlefield and traumatic injuries to the extremities often require a time-sensitive fasciotomy to prevent permanent damage and amputation—in as little as six hours, permanent damage can occur. As a result, Combat Medics and Medical Sergeants must perform fasciotomies in a variety of environments, but training for this procedure is currently inadequate to meet need. SIMETRI will apply its proven methodology to commercialize medical training products to develop a mobile game, named V-Fasctic, to close this gap. V-Fasctic is a mobile game-based training solution developed using COTS software that can be used as a standalone trainer or complement to hands-on skills training. V-Fasctic imparts muscle memory to those responsible for saving muscles. SIMETRI will develop a video game version of the our Lower Fasciotomy Part Task Trainer; this game can be used as a precursor/prerequisite to hands-on training, a refresher/remedial training aid for practitioners certified in the procedure, and a standalone trainer. In Phases II and III, the game will be extended to a VR/AR/MR platform for increased immersiveness; new modules for upper extremities (arms) will be added; and opportunities will be developed to add the procedure to formal Programs of Instruction, such as Tactical Combat Medical/Casualty Care (TCMC, TCCC).
