Description

We will deliver a new software architecture for scene generation named the Realistic Image and Neighborhood Generator (RING). Instead of being tied to a single tool, RING will provide interfaces suitable for a wide variety of image and scene rendering tools to run and interact with other codes. As an initial implementation of the interfaces, we will incorporate Stellar Science’s powerful, flexible Abstract Model Interface (AMI) ray tracing software and the state-of-the-art synthetic background scene generation components from Georgia Tech Simulations Integrated Modeling System (GTSIMS) into RING. RING will run with Stellar Science’s Galaxy Coupling Manager, which is a modular, high-performance computing (HPC) compatible simulation framework suitable for performing a wide variety of multi-physics simulations. The total scene generation platform will address current needs of directed energy and will also be flexible enough to be adopted and extended by other research communities. Concurrent with the development of RING, GTRI will conduct research into the challenging problem of realistic cloud modeling for scene generation. The research will begin with attempts to enter dynamic elements into the current static cloud model used by GTSIMS. The fruits of the research will be fully incorporated into RING in Phase II.
