Description
A high-performance electrical power system is integral to the success of a smallsat mission. In order to successfully integrate the HPEPS into the vehicle, a systematic approach to vehicle design must be undertaken to ensure all aspects are accounted for. The scope of this effort includes the design, fabrication, qualification and integration of spacecraft hardware and software to demonstrate and monitor the performance an EPS system for a small Low Earth Orbiting (LEO) satellite. A thermal management system must be designed to support the spacecraft’s High Performance Electric Power System in order to keep component temperatures within operational limits. The thermal management solution will include a conductive heat path coupled with radiators to draw excess heat away from the payload and dissipate to the background. Survival heaters will be sized and incorporated as necessary to maintain minimum component temperatures during certain mission modes. Data encryption is crucial for ensuring systems that store and process sensitive information are secure and unauthorized parties are unable to access the information. Only approved individuals can decipher an encrypted message back to plaintext and access the original information.
