Description
Structural aeroshell and skin materials for HYPERSONIC flight having improved shielding effectiveness from nuclear EMP and hardness from nuclear particle effects (hot and cold x-rays, gamma rays, and neutrons) and “stealthy� characteristics are required for multiple Programs of Record (Minuteman III, Long Range Stand-Off [LRSO] weapon, Hypersonic Conventional Strike Weapon [HCSW, “Hacksaw�], Air-Launched Rapid Response Weapon [ARRW, “ARROW�], Ground Based Strategic Deterrent [GBSD], Reusable Hypersonic Plane, etc.)– Functional Large Scale-Up and Testing of GT-nanoSHIELD™ materials to fill Requirements Gaps are critical to multiple AFNWC missions. GT and University of Hawaii developed multiple Patent Pending materials and nano-ceramic composite processes (3D/AM, molding) for multiple product verticals for Commercial Aersopace, Non-Defense (3 NASA Phase I and 2 NASA II SBIRs for large space optics, precision deployable structures, lasercom telescopes and structures for Extreme High Temperature, Cryogenic Temperature and Radiation Environments), and Defense applications. Combining nanocomposite materials, materials processing and manufacturing expertise with GT’s “RadHard by Design� and EMP modeling approaches, results in Functional Large-Scale Space and Airborne, Nuclear Survivable and "stealthy" HYPERSONIC Structures. Phase III Transition to Boeing, Lockheed Martin Space Systems and Northrop Grumman Programs of Record and direct contracts with Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center stakeholders are envisioned.
