Description
The Air Force is interested in leveraging commercial technology with dual-purpose Air Force solutions. Stonewall Defense proposes its scrap metal container tracker as one of these technologies. In response to pervasive theft of collection containers in the metal scrap industry, Stonewall Defense developed a system to track these containers. This system is comprised of an Internet of Things (IoT) board with cellular connectivity and Global Positioning System (GPS) capabilities. Additionally, this tracker harnesses the power of the Android Team Awareness Kit (ATAK) by sending location information to the TAKServer to be displayed on ATAK’s high powered maps. The ATAK system is a communications and situational awareness technology developed by the Air Force Research Laboratory Information Directorate (AFRL/RI). By modifying the physical form factor, power supply, and software, the scrap metal container tracker is a prime candidate for transition to military use.
