Description
The Missile Defense Agency (MDA) is seeking innovative component technologies that support improvements for manufacturing/performance and mass reduction for the Standard Missile 3 (SM3) Third Stage Rocket Motor (TSRM). To address this need, Valley Tech Systems (VTS) has developed a conceptual design of an advanced long duration extinguishment and re-ignition controllable solid propulsion TSRM Attitude Control System (ACS) with increased packaged impulse and higher mass fraction that will enhance a future SM-3 interceptor capability. Fundamental to the new design is the ability to deliver continuous on-demand accurate high thrust and very accurate low thrust providing future Kinetic Weapon pointing capability for accurate targeting during booster coast operations. During this Phase II SBIR VTS will leverage our 12-years of MDA SBIR controllable solid propulsion technology data base to the design and testing of a high fidelity TSRM ACS prototype with the goal of maturing the technology to TRL-6 at program completion.
